In the fourth quarter of 2020, the carpooling and ridesharing sector on iOS in the United States witnessed varying levels of user engagement and app downloads. Data from Sensor Tower provides a glimpse into the performance of the leading apps in this category.

Uber - Request a ride saw a fluctuation in downloads starting at 180K in late September, dipping to 156K in late November, and then surging to 248K by the end of December. Weekly active users followed a similar pattern, beginning at 4.3M, decreasing to 3.7M in November, and rising to over 5M by the year's end.

Lyft experienced a decline in downloads from 155K to 117K between late September and late November, with a rebound to 185K by December's close. The app's active users saw a decrease from 2.1M to 1.8M in the same period, with a slight recovery to just over 2M by the end of the quarter.

The app for drivers, Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver, showed growth in downloads from 43K to nearly 58K from the start to the end of the quarter. Weekly active users displayed more volatility, peaking at 1.18M in late November before dropping to under 1M in mid-December and then marginally increasing to 982K by the end of the year.

Lyft Driver also saw an upward trend in downloads, starting at 18K and climbing to 25K by December. The weekly active users remained relatively stable, beginning at 380K, dipping to 358K in late November, and then returning to 374K by the quarter's end.

Lastly, Bolt: Request a Ride had a gradual increase in downloads from 12K to 18K over the quarter. Active users reflected this growth, rising from 13K to 20K.
